I am also shocked by human impact on Iceland ecosystems, despite of a very sparce population density. I must acknowledge Japanese ancestors because Japan has a pretty high population density, few area of deserts, and ca.7000 "native" vascular plant species. But I remember, Japan now depends import of energy resource (oil) and food products, though during 400-140 years ago Japan imported few materials from abroad. In comparison with our ancestors, modern Japanese have big environmental problems.
